WHO ARE WE?

A survivor controlled forum for mental health system survivors, funded by the Big Lottery Fund to facilitate positive change for survivors over 3 years from 2006.

WHO ELSE IS ON IT?  BACKGROUND AND NAMES BEHIND THE CATCH-A-FIYA NETWORK

Marriet and Dominic make up the small project team working in partnerhsip with and with advice from other patrners like the African & Caribbean Mental Health Commission (ACMHC), CSIP, Diverse Minds, I & I Project from the Breaking the Circles of Fear project, MELLOW Campaign, The Mental Health Alliance, National Black & Minority Ethnic Mental Health Network (NBMEMHN) and other community/voluntary sector groups.

 WHAT DO WE DO?

For details of our successes and challenges sofar, please refer to our annual report. The first primary purpose of the project is to establish and maintain contact with survivors from BME communities, motivate and support them to learn, teach and grow (personal development). Our amibition is to find the best ways to talk directly to the inner soul of BME Mental Health service users/survivors. This coculd be through facilitating peer support, training and self-employment opportunities in partnership with other groups supportive of our cause. Our flexible work plan enables us to engage at many different levels with different degrees of participation of BME service users/survivors.

Through this, we aim to address the unacceptable inequalities experienced by, and over representation of, Black and Minority Ethnic people within the mental health system, through setting up a forum for service users/survivors and their carers.
